Whitehaven Town Centre Cycle Race

Start outside St. Nicholas churchCycle racer
September saw a Sunday of cycle racing around the town centre. The course started in front of St. Nicholas church along Lowther Street, up New Street, along Duke Street, down Scotch Street and back to the church. There were many races, but despite good organisation of the event and the participation of many cyclists the spectator turnout was very disappointing. Each race lasted many laps of the circuit and there were bonus prizes for lead riders in various categories plus separate races for juniors and veterans.
