The acorn is the focal point of the scrolled pediment from one of the earliest surviving doorways in Whitehaven, dating from about 1745, on the corner of Scotch Street. With its ionic columns, the doorway to 30 Roper Street was probably designed by its original owner James Spedding whose family's heraldry included the acorn device.
